A Fine Quality & Unusually D Shaped George III Period
Mahogany Chest Having Well Figured Top Above Brushing Slide &
Three Well Figured Graduated Drawers Standing On Elegant
Splay Feet

(This is a particularly elegant chest of drawers from the
early 19th century and this is evidenced from the relative plain
and clean lines of it which is a typical George III feature, before the
Regency period got into full swing and everything became jazzed
up and embellished in some way or another. It has a superbly figured
top and drawer fronts which retain and excellent colour and patina
and is raised on elegant original splayed feet. Another sign of high
quality craftsmanship is the panelled back, a feature designed to
reduce the effect of shrinkage. The handles are replacements but of
the original style and work nicely with the piece. The D shape is also
quite a rare feature and much, much, less common than the stereotypical
bow fronted design that is common throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
My personal preference is for this D shaped design, I think it adds an
extra touch of elegance to the piece. The drawers still run smoothly and
the item is ready to go straight into use wherever it may end up.)
