Emile-Desire Philippe (1834-c.1880) Early Egyptian Revival Antique Hinged Bangle.

Gold, silver & enamel.

H  1.60 cm (0.63 in)  |  W  6.80 cm (2.68 in).

Origin: France, 1878.

Marks: Maker's mark partly obscured.

Case: Fitted Case.

Condition: Good, with minor enamel repair. Wear consistent with age and use.

Diameter: 18.50 cm (7.28 in).

Remarkably fine eclectic bangle of early Egyptian & Gothic revival design.

Literature: 
cf. Egyptomania, Egypt in Western Art 1730-1930 National Gallery of Canada, 1994, p. 477 & 479 illustrates the parure shown at the Universal Exposition, Paris, 1878 which was given by Emile Philippe to the musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
