Egyptian kohl wand.

Middle Kingdom-New Kingdom.

Circa 2055-1069 BC.

Haematite.

Elongated tear drop form, the stone lightly banded in brown, the surface highly polished. The narrower end is stepped and tapered, with minuscule fissures to the point. This cosmetic wand was used to apply kohl to the eye lids.

Provenance

Maurice Bouvier, Alexandria, Egypt; exported to Switzerland 1959, thence by descent.
