John Collard Vickery bought up the long established business of William Griggs, a stationer and book seller in Regent St. in c1890, increasing the stock to include high quality consumer goods such as dressing cases, fitted travelling bags, gold and silver items amongst others. Due to their reputation for quality, they obtained royal warrants from HM the King, HM the Queen, HM Queen Alexandra, TRH the Prince and Princess of Wales alongside many European monarchs. J C Vickery was at the height of its success in the pre-war years and eventually ceased trading in 1930.
