Edwardian Brass Cased Ships Clock with Mahogany Surround by Sewill, Liverpool.
Brass ships clock, enamel dial with Roman numerals, original ‘blued’ steel hands with subsidiary dial below the XII for seconds and signed ‘Sewill, maker to the admiralty, Liverpool’.
Eight day chain Fusee movement with substantial brass plates and lever platform escapement. Circa 1900.
Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes lists John Sewill as working in Liverpool from 1848 to 1900 Chronometer maker to the Admirilty, chronometer maker to the Royal Navy. Also listed as chronometer maker to the Queen of Spain.
