Eastern Jin Yue Yao ware chicken-head ewer with a light green slightly crackled glaze.
Yue celadon was manufactured in the kilns around Yuyao, Shangyu, and Shaoxing in Northern Zhejiang province.
Yue was the kiln where potters were most skilled and specialised in modelling and applied decoration. Yue ware was in great demand
The ewer is very well modelled and potted with a loop handle and two small lugs to the shoulder. The chicken-head spot shows very good detail with a proud cocks comb and lovely round eye.
The glaze falls short of the foot and covers a stoneware body
Chicken head ewers are found around the Eastern Jin capital of Nanjing
