This attractive rug belongs to a group of carpets that were specifically commissioned in west Persia during the late 19th/early 20th century for the western market. They are unique due to their balanced drawings, quiet formality and use of soft colours. They are often seen in grand stately homes in Europe and the UK. Antique Ziegler Sultanabad carpets work well in modern spaces as they have the aesthetic ability to unite and balance both classic and contemporary design elements.

This stylish example has a less common ivory background which harmonises both the monochrome drawing and the nicely aged combination of vegetable-dyed colours. It is framed by a light blue main border which gives this piece a formal coherence and presence.

A timeless example with an understated elegance to blend in with a wide variety of spaces.
