This early Chinese Ningxia seat is an extremely harmonious, well balanced weaving.

The roundel in the centre with the five swastika is echoed in the fretted pattern of the spandrels. There is a clear similarity to the spandrels in the magnificent large Ningxia carpet on our website , see

https://www.christopherleggeorientalcarpets.com/products/view/chinese-ningxia-carpet/. The central circle is surrounded by four large, off white lotus flowers which are connected by elegantly swerving tendrils in two shades of indigo blue.

The dye, probably log wood, has faded from its original red to this delicate, yellow-brown hue typical of Ningxia weavings of this age.

The square is in full pile, and the sides have been replaced. Wool pile on a cotton foundation
