An unusual French mahogany reclining wing back armchair of high proportions, late Empire.

French, Circa 1820.

Of elegant proportions, having an unusually high reclining winged mahogany back. The stuff-over seat between padded armrest with reeding and foliate carvings to the fronts, raised on splayed legs united with an H-frame stretcher.

Each arm having a metal ratcheted catch and a hinged back allowing this armchair to recline to various positions of comfort.

Previously covered in a very fine quality horse hair fabric, (which looks very possibly to be a John Boyd horse hair fabric) with an individual brass nailed finish. A fine quality and rare early 19th Century reclining armchair.
