Standing just under three feet high, this carved figure of the archangel St. Michael is shown in typical pose looking down where Satan, in the form of a serpent, lies prostrate beneath his feet.
St. Michael is shown with long hair and wearing a surplice and would originally have held a sword or spear and had wings.
Apart from these losses, the figure is in excellent untouched condition and retains its original polychrome finish in an uncleaned state.
Probably South Netherlands circa 1520.
