About the object

A stone-painted carved eagle console table. The eagle and rockwork base circa 1740, the moulded frieze circa 1835.

The original stone-coloured paint was revealed under a layer of late-Victorian bronzing and a layer of early 19th century gilding. The frieze dates from the period of this gilding and lacked the stoned-coloured paint; we have matched this in to the eagle base.
