Dutch Brass Tobacco Box Depicting the City of Delft,

Circa 1760.

The oval Dutch brass engraved box depicts the city of Delft.  The view depicts a group of buildings in the foreground on the bank of the Schie River with the city of Delft on the opposite side.  The word Delft is engraved to the upper left of the box.  Surrounding the image of Delft are engraved scrolling leaves emanating from a flowerhead to each side.  In the foreground are what appears to be industrial buildings.

On the reverse is an engraved coat of arms and to each side an image of the sun with radiating rays and a stylized face.  Surrounding the body of the box are scattered leaves and flowers.  

Dimensions: 5 7/8 inches wide x 2 1/2 inches deep x 1 1/2 inches high; (14.75cm x 5.5 cm x 3.75cm)
