Rare Dr Franz Gall Phrenology snuff box. 
Claimed as the founder of the pseudoscience of phrenology,[1] Gall was an early and important researcher in his fields. His contributions to the field of neuropsychology were controversial at the time and are now widely referred to as pseudoscience. However, Gall's study of phrenology helped establish psychology, contributed to the emergence of the naturalistic approach to the study of man, and played an important part in the development of evolutionist theories, anthropology, and sociology.
The box is is very good overall condition with only a couple of shakes to the ‘burr’ timber on the edge. Avery good pressing which sees all the numbers on the skulls still sharp and pronounced. The back is also superb and clear. The interior lined with a Faux Tortoise shell as this was a cheaper option of the time. It is a wonderful colour and patination  and displays extremely well. The photographs are a little harsh and it appears a little softer in the hand. It includes an early hand written transcript of the back and two newspaper clippings. Circa 1825.
