Doulton Chiné Ground Pottery Vase

Circa 1880-90


The vase is decorated with a chiné technique using a textured netted background surface obtained by pressing moistened pieces of old point lace, linen or other soft fabrics into the soft clay soon after the pot had come from the wheel.

Two bands around the shoulder and waist. The neck with a brown ground with overlapping leaves.
