Fine quality, early 19th Century mahogany Stick Barometer in original condition. The arched top with well-engraved, silvered brass register plates, signed by the makers and bearing rack-and-pinion operated vernier.

The case of figured mahogany, edge-moulded and ebony banded, with original concealed cistern barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover.

Perhaps the most renowned of barometer makers, the firm of Dollond was founded in the mid-18th Century by Huguenot immigrant Peter Dollond [who subsequently became Instrument Maker and Optician to King George II and George III] and which flourished throughout the 19th Century, until its eventual acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
