About the object
A most attractive mid 18th century Derby porcelain oval fruit basket. The outside has a pierced and moulded trellis pattern with pale blue and yellow florets at each intersection, the scalloped rim is decorated with a gilt line. The base of the basket is moulded in a rope pattern coloured pale yellow. Flanked at either end are rope twist handles in blue and pink. The interior has a white ground painted with typical sprigs of flowers covering firing faults and the painting is by Edward Withers. Four patch marks on the underside A similar example can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum from the Schreiber Collection.
