Decorative Tabriz carpet.
The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has had a long history of rug weaving since the 14th century. Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their excellent weaves, creative drawings and high standard of craftsmanship.
This attractive mid-20th century example has the signature of a well-known master weaver/workshop of its era. It has a spacious overall drawing instead of the traditional central medallion motif, framed by a wide ivory border. The attractive soft red field complements the array of vegetable dyed colours.
In very good original condition for everyday use, it is timeless example with a creative drawing to blend in a wide variety of settings.
