Signed with initials, inscribed 'Cuckoo Flower - apr 1820'.
This botanical drawing in watercolour over pencil is by James Ward R.A. (1769-1859), the British animal painter and engraver, who was an inveterate sketcher. Sold mounted in a hand decorated mount, unframed, it is a delicate example of Ward's work, which is in the collection of most major UK and US museums.
