by Alfred Vachon (1907 – 1994)
Alfred Vachon was born in St. Tropez in 1907. Determining to become an artist at seventeen, he was self-taught.
At the start of his career he painted representational landscapes and portraits, then developing his painting into a neo-cubist style. After a period painting in an ethereal impressionist style, he completely embraced a bold abstract approach to his painting towards the end of his career. He devoted his entire life to painting and exhibited at the Galerie Phillipe Talien in St. Tropez.
Alfred Vachon died in 1994. A retrospective of his work was held in St Tropez in 2010 organised by fellow St Tropez artist and lifelong friend, Dany Latigue (son of the renowned twentieth century photographer Jacques Henri Latigue.)
Alfred Vachon died in 1994. Examples of his work are held at the Musée de l’Annonciade in St Tropez, and at the Musée de la Ville de Paris.
