Collection of miniature Korean vessels.
Joseon dynasty (1392-1897).
Korea.
Various sized: 4cm largest.
This unique collection of miniature white glazed vessels possesses an air of elegance and simplicity. A wide array of delightfully shaped vessels are included in this collection such as high shouldered jars, spherical jars, gourd shaped jars and domed jars. The oatmeal-coloured glaze gently crackled over the interior and exterior surface of these vessels and scatterings of minute granules retained from the firing process create an almost galaxy-like effect, reminiscent of stars and constellations.
The Choson elite’s penchant for plain white wares, reflects in part the minimalist and purist aesthetics associated with the new ruling ideology of Neo-Confucianism.
