Modelled in the form of a double gourd, painted in iron-red, green and turquoise enamels, with naturalistic leaves and tendrils, on a later wooden stand.
The imperial kilns at Jingdezhen undertook the simulation in porcelain of all kinds of materials for the Qianlong Emperor, but gourds are surprisingly rare.
A similar example is illustrated by R.Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang collection, London 1994-2010, vol.2.
