Very rare Chinese porcelain model of a Bactrian camel water dropper for the scholars’ desk decorated in underglaze cobalt blue (qinghua) and carving to enhance the tail, Tianqi reign (1620-1627), Ming dynasty, w. 9 cm, 3½ in; h. 5,5 cm, 2¼ in. 7-19365.
◆ The Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) is a large, even-toed ungulate native to the steppes of Central Asia. The Bactrian camel has two humps on its back, in contrast to the single-humped dromedary camel.
