Chinese famille rose 'squirrel & vines' coffee cup and saucer.
Qianlong (1736-95).
Moulded with brown squirrels clambering over polychrome vines. The saucer decorated in the centre with a roundel containing a flower-head.
Squirrels and grapevines were a popular artistic motif used during the Ming and Qing dynasties, symbolizing a wish for generations of sons and grandsons.
