A CHINESE EXPORT FIVE PIECE SILVER TEA SERVICE INCLUDING A MAGNIFICENT MATCHING SILVER INLAID HARDWOOD TRAY

Marks for Wang Hing                  Late 19th /early 20th century

The service consists of a solid silver teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl and tongs all tastefully decorated with bamboo shoots and leaves. The hardwood tray, with solid silver handles, is carved with a simulated bamboo lip and inlaid with silver bamboo shoots and foliage.

Wang Hing (1854-1941) was the most renowned and prolific China Trade silversmith during the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Established by the Lo family in Canton it expanded to Shanghai when finally the grandson of the founder opened its flagship premises at 10 Queens Road, Hong Kong in the 1920s.
