The BADA Christmas Gift ListChinese Export Porcelain Rose Mandarin Cider Jug and Cover.
Circa 1810-25.
The large Chinese Export porcelain cider jug and cover have two different circular scenes to each side bordered with a blue enamel and gold Greek Key pattern. The white ground is decorated with painted flowers including a lotus, butterflies. Around the neck is a more densely painted band of flowers. The double loop handles are most unusually designed having large terminals to top and bottom which are molded and gilded depicting leaves and flowers.
One scene depicts a mandarin figure in a yellow robe sitting at a table with attendants with large fans to either side. Before him are two male figures and a knelling woman. The second scene depicts a lady sitting at a marble table with a book before her and boxes of scrolls to her left side. A group of women behind and beside her watch on. In front of the table is a small child beckoning to the group. The scene is on a deck with a garden below.
The cover is similarly painted with a large figural scene in the center with a Kylin gilt finial and a floral band similar to that around the neck of the jug but smaller.
