Chinese Export Porcelain Large Armorial Blue and White Openwork Dishes.

Decorated with the Arms of the Bruce Family of Kennet.

Circa 1790.

The large Chinese Export blue and white oval openwork porcelain armorial dishes have a central armorial device in the center with gilt highlights.

The border is decorated with spearhead and diaper designs surrounding the inner well and the center of the border with openwork.

The outer border is decorated with a repeat of the diaper and spearhead design.

Condition: Some rubbing to the gilt within the lower shield.

Dimensions: 13 1/4 inches wide x 10 3/4 inches deep x 1 1/4 inches high.

Reference: Howard, Volume II, Page 569, V13 Bruce. Howard mentions that these arms are those for two different families who now both own part of the service.

The first family is Bruce of Kennet. Alexander Bruce was married in 1793. The second family of Bruce of Stenhouse in Co Sterling and the coat of arms on this service is exactly as bourne by the fifth, but third surviving son of Sir Michael Bruce of Stenhouse, 6th Baronet, Patrick Craufurd Bruce.

He was a merchant and a banker and was in the Hon East India Company.
