Chinese Export Porcelain En Grisaille Spoon Tray, The Crucifixion.

Circa 1745

The black and gold shaped Chinese Export porcelain oval spoon tray is painted "en grisaille" with a depiction of the Crucifixion with Christ on the cross with the two Mary to either side.  The rare aspect of this piece is that the figures are all Chinese including Christ.  The border with a repetitive designs of a tree? within a narrow gilt band to the inside.  This type of ware used to be called Jesuit ware.

Dimensions: 4 7/8 inches x 3 3/4 inches x 3/4 inch high.
