Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain Plate.

Circa 1745.
The Chinese armorial porcelain plate is painted in famille rose enamels with the Arms of Arbuthnott in the center and with the motto Laus Deo (Praise be to God) below. The inner border with a band of spearheads in the well, the border enameled and gilt in the Meissen style with four cartouches enclosing European ships in harbor scenes. The arms have a central shield with blue enamel flanked by colorful dragons.
Dimensions: 8 3/4 inch diameter x height 1 1/4 inches.
The arms are those of John, 5th Viscount Arbuthnott. See D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, 1974, p.327.
