Chinese bottle vase, Wanli (1573-1670), the bulbous pear-shaped body rising from a short foot to a waisted neck and garlic-bulb mouth; the body divided into six alternating panels containing either scholars in garden settings with bamboo, plantain and scrolling clouds, or bamboo, chrysanthemum and lotus, divided by narrow bands of lines and dots, the mid-section with a band of ruyi-heads, the slender neck with panels containing dots and shapes including pendant tassels and double lozenges, the bulb-shaped mouth with a further ruyi-head band and single line in underglaze cobalt blue.
