Chinese blue and white Kangxi mark and period plate (1662-1722).
Decorated to the central roundel with a lotus emerging from the ground, surrounded by boughs of blossom and leafy sprigs.
The rim with radiating petal shaped cartouches containing peony, blossom and forget me not.
The outer rim with bracketed sections with further flowers and stylised chakra. The reverse with petal-shaped cartouches containing similar flowers.
With six-character mark to the base within concentric circles.
The chakra, or flaming wheel, was a Buddhist symbol representing the Buddha’s teaching and universal moral order, with the wheel supposedly crushing all superstitions and spiritual delusion.
