Solid Well Patinated Walnut with Original Cast Brass Mounts.
French, circa 1770.
Dimensions
94cms high x 123.5cms wide x 59.5cms deepCondition report
An elegant and entirely authentic provincial Louis XV commode in deliciously well worn and patinated solid walnut. The slightly serpentine profile, moulded plank top, above three long drawers each carved with two blind and three deeply carved, cartouche shaped panels. This example retains all of the original cast brass handles and escutcheons and locks and is raised on well-shaped cabriole legs, separated by a generous decorative apron. The chest is in amazing original condition and bears a richly burnished surface with a soft mellow patina. The drawer linings are fashioned from pine and all are also in original condition. There are mulptiple scars and bruises and some incidental minor filling repairs to the top, all commensurate with age and function. This is a remarkable survival in the best French Provincial Tradition, a chest of great quality understated elegance.Stock number
