Circa 1750 – 1752

Chelsea produced a faithful copy of a Kakiemon design that refers to an episode in the 11th century novel, The Tale of Genji, where Genji sees the beautiful young girl, Murasaki, lamenting the escape of her nightingale from its cage.

The pattern has become known in England as the ‘the Lady in a Pavilion’.
