Charles Theodore Frere (French, 1814 – 1888).
Countryside idyll.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated ‘CH. FRERE. 1835’ (lower left).
12.7/8 x 19.1/4 in. (32.7 x 49 cm.).
Frere is associated mainly for his depictions of Bedouins at sunset but this is a much earlier and rare work which never the less shows his skill in depicting fine detail which elevated him to the status of a very well renowned painter of his day.
