ENGLAND, circa 1675 With turned and carved decoration including shells and flower heads, on barley twist supports (angled to improve stability) with stylized ‘Braganza’ feet and turned finials and toes. Originally with a foot rest.
Provenance: Manor House, Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire.
A similar child’s chair in walnut is in the National Trust Collections at Clevedon Court, Somerset, NT 623967 (see image below right) which is also illustrated in Ralph Edwards The Dictionary of English Furniture, (Antique Collectors’ Club, 1983) fig 3, p.314.
