The Mug is plain in design with slightly tapering sides and a "tucked in" base engraved with reeding. This example has a ribbed scroll handle and slightly everted rim.
The Mug is in excellent condition, with a good colour and original interior hammer marks. The Mug is of an unusual size and was most probably for the use of a child or Lady.
This piece is also made in the higher Britannia Standard grade of silver, which was not compulsory after 1720, however William Fleming must have been commissioned by the customer to make it using Britannia Standard silver.
William Fleming had workshops in Maiden Lane, London, when this piece was made. His mark is frequently found on well executed small pieces of hollow ware such as cream jugs, saucepans and mugs.
