Brass Dutch tobacco box with royal couple and hounds
A fine, eighteenth century brass Dutch tobacco box with a hinged lid, decorated with engravings of the royal couple, William V and Princess Frederika, and two hunting scenes.
The decorative engravings are as follows: on the lid, William V, Prince of Orange, above his coat of arms and a Dutch inscription ("While the Sun Shines, the House of Orange Shall Flourish") - on the underside, his wife, Princess Frederika Sophia Wilhelmina of Prussia, above her coat of arms and a Dutch inscription ("Long Live the Young Prince of Orange, Born as Stadholder") - on the hinged side, two hounds pursuing a fox - and on the the facing side, two hounds pursuing a stag, and the initials and date "EM 1759".
