Blue and White Porcelain Kangxi Tea Pot

Blue and white porcelain tea pot made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen cIRCA 1710.  Made for export to Europe.

the small rounded bodied tea pot is painted to the sides with two separate panels of figures.  One panels shows a dignitary with an attendant riding through a wooded landscape. The horse is as always painted showing character and the figures animated.

The other panel is painted to show a fisherman maneuvering a sampan along a wooded river bank.

Below the spout there is a 'coin' painted representing one of the eight treasures.  This is significant as another four  of the   eight treasures are painted to the top of the lid and an artemisia leaf another treasure to the base. The loop handle and the 'S' shaped spout are both painted with a stylised foliage pattern.

The lid is the original and is an excellent fit.

The painting and colour are both excellent and the small tea pot is an excellent example of an early tea pot.
