BH43 A Rare and Fine Chinese Ming Blue and White Kraak Bowl

Chinese Ming Blue and White Kraak Bowl.

Of imposing size, the deep rounded sides rising from a tapered foot to a subtly foliated rim, the interior centred with a large medallion of an official, standing on a terrace with chequered floor, he is carrying a ruyi sceptre, in the background plantain issuing from stylised rockwork, the cavetto with panels with figural scenes and  houses divided by floral motifs, the exterior painted with soldiers within a mountainous, cloud-filled landscape.

Period:   First half of the 17th century,  Chonzheng (1628-1643).

Provenance:  Bluett & Sons Ltd., London, 28th February 1987.

Footnote: 
It is rare to find such a bowl with kraak style painting inside and 'Chinese taste' style painting on the outside.  
This bowl is extremely fine.  I have occasionally  seen examples  with two styles of painting but in this quality I have only seen three others.
