A faience factory was established in Berlin in 1678 on the orders of the Elector of Brandenburg, Frederick I. It was established under the guidance of Dutch potters who imported the technology from Delft.
A series of standing Chinese figures is quite well known, this model is rare.
A figure of a lady, possibly a pendant to this group from the Märkisches Museum , Berlin, is illustrated in ‘Barock-Fayencen, Kurmäkische Manufacturen’, (1994), fig. 57.
