Arthur Friedenson was born in Leeds and started work as a sign painter before studying at the Académie Julian in Paris, and the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp. Returning to England, Friedenson spent much of his life painting at Staithes, North Yorkshire.
"Early Spring, Staithes, Yorkshire" is a lovely example of his work. An oil painting on panel measuring 10"x 14", it is signed lower left, is in the original gilt frame and has the title inscribed on the back in the artist's hand.
