A stylish Art Deco jade dress clip.
The clip with a carved Art Deco trapezoid shaped jade panel in a fine claw mount. The clip has a hinge to the top and a beautifully made openwork back, typical of the Art Deco era.
The clip has 2 small spikes to the back to ensure it securely attached to the cloth when worn.
The clip could esily be worn as a pendant as the design allows for a chain to be strung through the top of the hinged section.
The panel (untested for treatment) has carved floral and fruit decoration and is in wonderful conditon.
Jade was a popular choice for Art Deco jewellery following Cartier's extensive use of the stone in the early 1920's.
The gemstone is revered in Chinese society where Confucius praised jade as a symbol of righteousness and knowledge. In Chinese culture jade is customarily thought to influence health and prosperity, and ward off negative energy.
