An Art Deco coromandel wood side cabinet by Serge Chermayeff (1900-1996). 

For Waring and Gillows. 

The geometric form with raised centre with five drawers, flanked by two cupboards, over two further drawers. 
Labelled. 
Stamped to the top drawer and numbered '93224' to the back. 
England, circa 1930. 
Measures: 153 cm wide x 61 cm deep x 99 cm high. 
Serge Chermayeff was born in Grozny in 1900 to a wealthy Jewish Family. He came to England and was educated at Harrow. After spending time as a journalist and a professional dancer he joined Waring and Gillows with no formal training. As head so the Modern Art Studio. 
Together with Paul Follot, the French decorator, who ran the Paris branch of Waring and Gillows, he organised an Exhibition of Modern Design. 
This gave the British public access to the luxurious Paris furnishings and an introduction to the French Modern style. 
This particular sideboard is identical in form to that in the 1928 Exhibition, but this example is veneered entirely in coromandel.

The label on the sideboard dates between 1928-1931. 
He founded his own design practice in 1931. Between 1933-36 he collaborated with the architect Erich Mendelsohn on several buildings including the De La Warr Pavillon in Bexhill, Sussex. Built of steel, glass and concrete, the building was the first public building in Great Britain to be designed in the International Modern Design. 
In 1939 he wasn't to teach in the USA, later holding the head of Architecture at Harvard, then Yale from 1962.
