A large Arita porcelain tankard, Japan, circa 1700. Hand painted in underglaze blue, with a central panel of figures beneath a parasol, walking in a woodland landscape. Two panels to either side painted with ducks on a river, and birds amongst trees.
The panels divided by dense, karakusa scroll, a motif repeated along the handle, which is pierced to accept the addition of a European metalwork cover.

Height: 19.5 cm, 7 5/8”.

Width: 17 cm, 6 5/8”.

Depth: 13.5 cm, 5 1/4”.

Condition: Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
