Uzbekistan, 1st half 19th century. This Ikat coat is a generation older than most coats on the market. It is exceptionally finely drawn and has great presence - a real work of textile art
Silk warp, cotton weft; original braiding and Central Asian block printed cotton lining. An identical lining cloth, or 'chit', dated to the early 19th century, is in the famous Guido Goldman Collection. It is illustrated in Fitz Gibbon, Kate and Andrew Hale, Ikat. Silks of Central Asia.
