This antique Ushak carpet has been woven with a beautiful variety of greens and soft red/terracotta tones that have mellowed to soft colours due to the carpets age.  Created around 1890-1900 for a carpet that is 120 years old it is in excellent condition.  The pile is medium to high all over and fringes and side/selvedges are all secure ready for the floor.

The overall design is mixed with a subtle geometric design all over which is well spaced and not too cluttered.

Ushaks were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.  This Anatolian carpet has an almost contemporary feel to it and would work in a modern space as well as traditional.  We clean every carpet before offering it for sale and make sure the ends and fringes are secured.  A decorative antique carpet ideal for a drawing room, dining room or even a bedroom.  Their soft tones can compliment most interiors.

Ushak rugs and carpets were woven in the Anatolian highlands south of Istanbul where they used extremely soft wool and using the larger turkish knot made them weave more open designs than Persian carpets. They are increasingly desirable today due to their sometimes softer palette than persian carpets, thus making them easy to live with as decorative floor coverings.
