Antique Treen 18th Century Large Burr Maple Peg Tankard

A rare and extremely large burr maple peg tankard, having a domed lid with incised ring turnings and centered with a lion, which is hinged to the handle that has a further surmounted seated lion in the traditional design.

The well grained body has two very slight bands of inset concave moulding and is raised on four couchant carved lion feet in the traditional manner. The base has ring turned decoration and a carved capital letter T. The handle has a historic repair and the whole has a good honey colour and slightly crusty patination.
