A very fine and top condition Antique Tekke Wedding rug with warm rich reds, deep blues, ivory dyes and original kilim end finishings.  Finely woven and with a super soft full wool pile and extremely floppy handle, which shows the rugs quality and weavers skill. A really exceptional example with lovely madder red dyes that have mellowed and indigo blues.  The end designs are known as the 'skirts' and have a varied design from the repeating 'Guls' in the centre and border design.  A brilliant collectable antique Tekke rug that has lots of character.  The condition is remarkable with a full wool pile, no areas of damage and the ends/fringes even still have some kilim border showing.

Tekke 'Wedding' rugs are highly collectable and desirable rugs, where the bride to be would weave a rug showcasing her weaving skills to the grooms family at her wedding.   She would stand on the Tekke 'wedding' rug during the wedding ceremony. These tribal Turkoman rugs were part of her dowry and really were never intended to be sold.  A dowry is a transfer of gifts, or money at the marriage of the daughter (bride).

Bokhara rugs at the end of the 19th Century were hand-woven by people of Russian Turkistan (Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). These famous Bokhara designs have been copied over the years by weavers in Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Bokhara rugs hold a high place in rug weaving history and are a traditional piece of art suitable for any interior decor. The 'Gul' design is often thought to depict an elephants foot print.
