A fine extremely pale antique Sivas carpet woven in central Anatolia.  With a cotton foundation it allows for a finer weave compared to other Turkish carpets such as Oushak or Ushak.  The design is classical and a Persian in influence, with a wonderful elaborate central medallion using pale pinks and delicate greens.  Ivory tones are common with Sivas rugs and allow them to be decorative floor coverings that work easily with many interiors.  Condition wise this piece is very good, the pile is medium high with these carpets never having a full woolly pile due to their construction.  There are a few lower areas of pile and minimal small areas of restoration.  In general this late 19th century carpet has been well cared for and can be used for many years to come.

Sivas carpets were often commissioned for the West, using elegant curvilinear designs from Persian rugs and intricate floral motifs combined with wide borders with repeating cartouche designs.  This design has been seen in Ardebil carpets, which is the design on this Sivas carpet.  These soft carpets have a lot of decorative appeal and are ideal to furnish around.

Request a home visit to see this beautiful antique carpet in situ to see if it works with your interior.  We travel all over the UK showing carpets in situ and we would love to help you.
