Magnificent abochhini, or wedding shawl, made in Sindh, which is now in Pakistan, around 1900.
This large shawl is embroidered in the classic Sindh embroidery colours of pink and green silk on undyed cotton, employing a variety of stitches, including 'Sindhi stitch' characteristic of embroideries from this area. It is embellished with mirror work around the pompon in the centre, which is accentuated by the elegantly swerving diagonals leading to the flower around the central pompon.
It is worked in two pieces and is overall in excellent condition.
