Antique Silver Vinaigrette 1842 William Simpson.

Antique Silver Victorian engine-turned Vinaigrette with raised borders and an oblong cartouche engraved with the initials A.B. Hinged and opening to disclose a pierced floral engraved silver gilt grille.

Made by William Simpson of Birmingham.

Origin: Birmingham.

Year: 1842.

Antique silver vinaigrettes; small, decorative and a wide variety of styles to choose from ensures that these delightful boxes are as collectible as ever. They were used to guard against disease and unpleasant odours.

A sponge was place inside the vinaigrette which was impregnated with aromatic vinegar and concentrated perfumed oils.
